1980
Theme: Trivia Weekend
March 14-16, 1980
Winning Teams
- Playboys
- Gopher Cheeks
Trivial Facts
- Trivia Weekend traditions began with the very first contest: sleep shifts among team members, phone calls to businesses and acquaintences around the world at 4 am, team rivalries, and mountains of soda cans and coffee cups at KVSC.
- It was the first time KVSC was on air for 55 consecutive hours.
- The contest was stopped for 45 minutes when fire alarms went off in Holes, Stearns, and Sherburne Halls.
- Teams were small, some even consisted of a single person,
- but added members throughout the weekend as they looked to others for help with answers.
- Toward the end of the weekend, one question required players to count
- the number of street lights on a certain bridge and stairs in a certain campus building.
- Contest founder Mike McMenamin thought there was a good chance Trivia Weekend would become a yearly event.
