Opened in May 1971, Centennial Hall was designed by S.C. Smiley and Associates and built by Wahl Construction. Centennial Hall cost $4 million to build and had 178,400 square feet of floor space, seating for 2,200 people, and the capacity for 470,000 books. Centennial Hall, named to honor 100th anniverary of the founding of St. Cloud State University in 1869, served as the university's library until 2000 when the James W. Miller Learning Resources Center opened. Centennial Hall is now home to the Herberger Business School.
