In the fall of 1885, the Ladies Home residence hall opened. In 1899, the building was named in honor of faculty member (and later president) Isabel Lawrence. The Stearns House was no longer used but still standing. It would be razed in 1895.

With Stearns House, the campus appeared like this until 1892.
