This image shows the construction of Mitchell Hall, which opened in time for the fall term of 1958. The north addition construction, which isn't pictured here, began in the summer of 1958 and opened in the fall of 1959.

A new dormitory had not been built on campus since Shoemaker Hall opened in the fall of 1915, a gap of just over 40 years.
