Joseph Carhart

• Before arriving on campus, taught at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, and the Indiana State Teachers College in Terre Haute, Indiana
• Oversaw the construction of the south wing of "Old Main" (1874), completed in 1893
• In 1892, the first St. Cloud State student newspaper, Normalia, was published
• Taught courses in psychology and the science of education
• After leaving St. Cloud State in 1895, became president at the State Normal School in Mayville, North Dakota, a post he held until 1907
