TEST - 100 Years of the Chronicle

Introduction

Happy birthday to The Chronicle! The Chronicle’s first issue was published on September 19, 1924.

For the past 100 years, The Chronicle has served as the student voice of campus. It has informed, entertained, and been a vehicle to act. The Chronicle, along with KVSC and UTVS, is and remains a laboratory for students to learn by doing.

Since 1924, The Chronicle provides an important viewpoint to St. Cloud State’s history. It ultimately documented through word and image the tremendous changes as St. Cloud State transformed from a sleepy teachers college to a regional comprehensive university.

Based on several themes, this exhibit spotlights 100 years of campus change through the eyes of The Chronicle.

Over time, The Chronicle has had several names, including The College Chronicle and University Chronicle. For the sake of this exhibit, the name The Chronicle is used to represent the newspaper.

Using images and information in Archives, this exhibit was researched by University Archivist Tom Steman. Also consulted were current and past Chronicle staff and many other interested campus individuals. Special thanks to Mike Knaak, Jess Meichsner, and the University Library dean’s office.
